Taco Bell’s latest promotional item is the Double Decker Taco. The Double Decker Taco is made with “A warm flour tortilla layered with refried beans wrapped around a crunchy taco filled with seasoned beef, crispy lettuce and shredded cheese.” Mine cost $32.9 when ordered through the Taco Bell app.
This is a fairly straightforward taco. They take a standard hard shell taco, and glue a soft tortilla to it using refried beans. The actual product looks somewhat underwhelming compared to the advertisements.
The Double Decker Taco tastes like a very bready Taco Bell taco. The refried beans add some heft, but don’t bring much in the way of flavor. As far as Taco Bell items go it’s very bland. I think some creamy chipotle sauce or a Doritos Locos Taco Shell could have helped to liven it up. Fire Sauce added some much needed moisture.
At $3.29 the Double Decker Taco provides a solid value. It’s nearly twice as filling as typical taco for only $0.30 more. Overall it’s basically two mediocre tacos for the price of one, and it comes together pretty well with some Fire Sauce.
Taco Bell Double Decker Taco - ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
P.S. Taco Bell’s website contains possibly the worst description of a taco I’ve ever seen. Whoever wrote this should be put in prison immediately.
The Double Decker® Taco is like the bunk bed of tacos. A Crunchy Taco sits on a bed of warm refried beans, while the Flour Tortilla sits underneath. I like to imagine these unique taco siblings sharing a bedroom, and they each chose their bunk based on personality. The Crunchy Taco is probably a bit more adventurous, a committed risk taker, always facing the possibility that it might wake up in the middle of an eight-foot fall onto a thin pile of half-read comic books. On the flip side, the Flour Tortilla with beans is relaxed. It may come off as lazy, but in actuality it chose the lower bunk because it knows it has a quicker route out the front door in the morning.
