Coke flavored Oreos are a limited edition Oreo Cookie created as part of a crossover promotional event by Nabisco and Coca-Cola. Nabisco has created a Coke Flavored Oreo, and Coca-Cola created an Oreo flavored Coke Zero (stay tuned for that review). Nabisco describes the cookies as such.
The Limited-Edition OREO® Coca-Cola™ Cookie boasts a distinctive red and black color-blocked design featuring two unique basecakes, one classic chocolate and one red-colored golden embossed with Coca-Cola® designs, stuffed with a smooth white-colored creme. The basecakes are paired with a Coca-Cola® inspired taste fans know and love, and popping candies that bring a “fizzing” sensation to every bite.
A box of 20 cookies cost $5.99 and looks like this. Definitely a victim of shrinkflation.
Open the package and you’re immediately hit with an intense aroma from the cookies. It smells roughly halfway between an Oreo and a Cherry Coke. I’ve had the package open for half a day now, and the scent hasn’t faded at all.
Each sandwich is made with one red cookie and one black cookie, and contains a typical amount of Oreo creme in the middle.
The sandwich is a four car pileup of flavors. Oreo’s classic Dutch cocoa flavor is there, there’s an extremely strong essence of cola, and the creme is infused with cherry flavored pop rocks that explode in your mouth creating a simulacrum of carbonation. It’s not a bad cookie but its very busy.
Oreos aren’t really meant to be eaten whole however, a true connoisseur takes them apart and eats them one layer at a time. The black cookie as far as I can tell is a classic Oreo cookie. The creme seems to be a vanilla creme with cherry pop rocks mixed in. The cola flavor lives entirely within the red cookie. I actually enjoyed the layer by layer experience more than I did the whole cookie.
Overall the Coke Flavored Oreos are an interesting novelty that fail to be more than the sum of their parts. Worth trying if you like Coke and Oreos, but you probably won’t be rushing out to buy them again. (2.5\5)
